Grande Parco Forlanini | Patchwork

// The project was featured as part of MVRDV Urbanism Month: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cbzu0VhAZys/
Grande Parco Forlanini is a large open space in East Milan that is still under development. Its nature today consists of various fragments that among other functions include: Cascinas (historical farms); commercial and sport facilities; animal shelters; housing; industry.
The project proposes an integration of the fragments and greenery inside the park as well as connections with the surroundings. A patchwork that will blur the boundaries and set the ground for a future unified cloth.
IDEOGRAM : A system of divergent network of Gateways
The urban strategy represents a series of punctual and linear interventions, using an urban syntax of tactical, transitional and commercial squares, playgrounds and shared streets. It integrates in between the built form and attaches to the existing traffic network aiming at a smooth penetration from the outside to the inside and movement between the distinct fragments inside the park.

A gateway system should act as a catalysator of new users and a invitation to the outside public realm.
The approach to our project was too look at the Grande Parco Forlanini as a patchwork composition. In that sense, implementing tactical squares that will lead to the park through pedestrian pathways and shared streets. The experience of transition and process of getting inside the park is the leading thought of all the interventions.
